You can create a SSRS report that uses SSAS cube data but:

  • The SSRS reports are static (not dynamic). If you use the dynamic version of SSRS report (Matrix with Drilldown) the report will retrieve ALL of the data from the cube which makes this type of report very slow. ReportPortal OLAP report retrieves the cube data only as needed. SSRS reports work much better with the relational data.
  • ReportPortal is a zero- footprint client. SSRS requires an installation if you want to build a report.
  • ReportPortal provides a huge set of features not provided by the SSRS report like: calculated members, named-sets, drillthough, comments, write-backs, analyze-across, advanced security, conditional formatting and data visualization reports.
  • ReportPortal provides 20 different report types (like Data-entry, ROLAP, Crystal, SQL View, KPI, Dashboards, Blog and Wiki ) and also lets you upload a SSRS report or point to a report on the SSRS server.
