I am trying to install release 176 on a 2008 64 bit server using a separate 2008 64 bit SSAS server. The SSAS is a 64 bit installation. I have very limited IIS knowledge.
I am unable to get the xmla / msmdpump setup working. I did the install on a 32 bit xp machine to verify the connection to SSAS works – had no problems.
I tried the msmdpump with the reportportal installation and also tried copying the msmdpump from the 64 bit SSAS server. No luck. On the setup test connection data link dialog box I get “ connect ion failed………. Multi-step OLE operation generated errors ……No work was done”
I did try setting up the files on a different server. In my current server I keep getting a 404 - as if IIS does not recognize the virtual directory. I do not get a 404 on the other servers.
The blog links have instructions for "testing the connection". I am not sure what I should see on the test.
I still suspect something on the IIS setup is improper.
Our current production setup is RP on one 2003 x32 server and SSAS on a second 2008 r2 x64 server.
We will be migrating all servers to 2008 r2 x64. So I am trying to setup and test the full 2008 r2 x64 operation before we do the server upgrades / migrations. This is also our first setup with RP and IIS 7.0.
Is there an option of placing xmla on the RP server or the SSAS server?
I have given some thought to placing RP on the SSAS server but that server will be on a clustered server which could introduce other issues.
on the SSAS server 64 bit is there also IIS installed ? If yes you can use this server to have XMLA 64 bit working.
If not it should be on the win 32 server (in future win 64) with 32 bit xmla and in future 64bit xmla.
You can do also a test with the ReportPortal demo server where you can add a new xmla connection string in ReportPortal admin on another server, like yours. So you are flexible to do this.
