Hi..

I recently installed report portal version 2.2 build 148 on a Windows 2003 Server with SQL 2005 in the same box. Please bear in mind I am running this on a Virtual PC environment in a Win XP machine.

I managed to go through the installation and I can login to Report Portal webpage as Admin. Once I am in the page, I cant access the Admin, Design or even View functions. What I mean by cant access is whenever I click 'Admin', nothing comes up, the same for Design and View.

This is the bizzare part, in IIS, if I choose to browse 'Report Portal' under the default website, I could login as Admin and I could get to all the functions of View, Design and Admin. Even better, I could create SQL reports and it worked.

Now when I double click the Report Portal icon on the desktop, I could login and even see the new report which I have created but I couldnt run it.

Any help would be much appreciated as I am pulling my hairs out. I have been working in getting this up and running for the last 2 days!

Bob.

Hi,

Which ASP.NET did you add to ReportPortal in IIS ?

ReportPortal needs ASP.NET 1.1. Maybe this is not installed.

We have it working here with both Windows 2003 Standard and Enterprise + SQL Server 2005.

Best regards,
Marco

Hi,

Is your IE security switched on on Windows 2003 server (Installed Windows Components) ? Did you try to use localhost or ip or name of the server on the server ?

Hi Marco..
Are you referring to the report portal url? If you are then I am using the actual server name which is http://aware/reportportal/login.aspx.

As for the security, I will have a look at the security part. I will let you know when I have done that.

It could be that because now I could login to the url from other workstation and have access to the functions.

Thanks for your help mate!

You will see if you open on the windows 2003 server in IE with http://yourservername/reportportal or http://yourip/reportportal that nothing is on screen while first is checked the ip / name outside of the server.

If you start with http://localhost/reportportal or http://127.0.0.1/reportportal than you go directly to the website.

Outside of the server you have to use the yourservername or yourip

Hi Marco..

Well thats the weird part. In my win 2003, I am able to see the webpage and login into RP using Admin id and password but I am unable to access the tools. It just wont load up. Nothing comes up if I click Admin, Design or View.

But if I do it from my workstation, it's all working fine.

Bob,

Ok you can work with ReportPortal from any workstation. That is fine.

Maybe in IE on the Windows 2003 server there is javascript off ?

Do you see a yellow signal in the statusbar in IE on the left when you click on View, Design or Admin ?

Hi Marco...

Thats was the problem. The java script was turned off. Thanks for the advise. Everything is working fine now but I am having another problem now which is confined to windows vista. Do you know if report portal works in IE 7 or in windows vista?

Why I am asking this is because, users whom are using windows vista having problems when they connect to a cube. They can login to report portal, they can open OLAP report and but they cant connect to a cube.

The same user login in XP and it worked fine.

Have you got this problem before?

Hi Marco.

Thanks for the document. I have gone through the document however your doco is referring to Report Portal being installed on a Windows Vista Machine.

In my case, I have installed it on a Win XP machine and accesing it through Windows Vista. I looked at the error that you've got which is you are unable to connect to XMLA, the same error that I am getting on my Vista machines, is the solution the same because when I check my IIS settings on my XP machine which is hosting my RP, it doesnt contain 2 dll's.

Another thing, not sure if this is worth mentioning I have noticed on my Vista machines is that IIS is not installed. Do you need to install IIS even if you have RP installed on another OS such as Win2003 or XP?

Thank you for you help so far. If you have any ideas on this would be much appreciated mate.

Cheers
Bob
