When exporting to Excel destination, the client machine's reporting up to 50% CPU usage and local memory in use climbs - to over 1 GB in one observed case. If left to complete, the resulting Excel file is tiny by comparison.
In Application Settings, both 'Enable Server Formatting' and 'Server side execution' are enabled. When a file is exported though, the server ticks over at very little CPU, while the client machine is locked up. Is this operating as intended? |

Is this an OLAP report?
Is the paging used? If no, do you experience the same problem when it is on?
Could you please try to reproduce this on the demo server? http://www.reportportal.us |

Hi,
It's OLAP, a large report (one of those more like a data dump... but OLAP is so good at time-bound reports, it's better than raw SQL).
Paging was off, and memory and cpu was being gobbled up before the Excel export. But when the report was fully loaded and export triggered, it basically never completes, and locks up the whole browser in the meantime.
When paging is on, an error is thrown - 'View of 521 Properties Actions' (the report has 521 pages) followed by the MDX report definition. There's no explicit error code or description.
The same error is generated when the export type is csv. |

This may hopefully assist. Exporting a large Excel OLAP report hangs IE 9, but very quickly is available when RP is run on Chrome. The resulting Excel file is only 6k in size. |

Thanks but it is very hard to reproduce this problem. Could you please see if you can do this on the demo server? http://www.reportportal.us

From testing during quiet hours, its looking like a combination of a large dataset and using OLAP to generate data dumps. Not ideal. Nothing to do with RP though I suspect. |
