Hi All,

I need to use AS2000 Database Roles for individual users, but I am currently passing through the UserID and password by manually populating the NT fields in the Admin\Users form. I don't believe this is the best way to do this, because if a user changes his password, the administrator has to manually change this in the Admin\Users form. Is there a better way to use real integrated security? Am I misunderstanding the integrated security, or Pass-Through Authentication?

Our current setup is
- ReportPortal 2.1 Build 138
- IIS
- We have Anonymous Access enabled
- We have Integrated Windows Authentication selected
- ReportPortal client
- Each user logs on to ReportPortal with his own password
- Users are not set up as Writers (Security Group) as we do not want users to publish reports
- Analysis Server 2000
- Each user has his own Role on Analysis Services restricting them to slices of cubes (Eg In the Sales cube, a Salesperson can see only sales attributed to them)

You can get the latest evaluation version build here:
http://www.reportportal.com/download.asp

You will need to uninstall and reinstall. During uninstall, select "no" when asked to delete the database. During install, select the same database name.

Thanks, so the next obvious question is what's the easiest/best way to upgrade?
and what's the relationship between Report Portal 2.2 and the various Build versions?

thanks
Michael

This is a version thing. This feature was introduced in build 144.

I have the Admin > Settings > Security tab, but don't have anything on > Security Authentication Mode

Is this a version thing (I'm running v2.1 build 138) or am I being dumb?

ReportPortal supports three security authentication modes:

Application - only application users are used.
Windows - only windows users can login to the application (with the exception of admin users).
Mixed - both windows and application users are supported.
Windows and Mixed authentication modes require that at least one NT-based role is setup. The role name will need to have the same name as the windows group name that will have access to the application.

Please go to Admin > Settings > Security > Security Authentication Mode to change it.

Thanks Marco,

To use the User Filter, do I need to be on Report Portal 2.2?

You have mentioned a few things that could work, but I don't know how to actually implement these. Could you please give me some instructions other than the help files?

thanks,
Michael

Hi,

If you use integrated security on reportportal in IIS than it is possible that based on the login on a network users in ReportPortal see their own data in both SQL and OLAP report.

In SQL Report you can use the ::NtUserID or ::Email

In OLAP Report you can use the User Filter so that a sales person see only his own data without use of SSAS security.

If you use integrated security in ReportPortal you can synchorinize with your Windows / User management if you prefer.

Changing ony the password in ReportPortal for a user is very easy. So if a user see the login screen you can add on this screen a email address to let you update the users in reportPortal or synchronize every day/month what you like.

So you don't have to use SSAS security and have all user security in one place in ReportPortal
